Town Seeks 'Leisure Services' Chief

Retiring Barrington recreation director John Taylor may be replaced with a 'leisure services director'.

Barrington’s next recreation director may well be in charge of a lot more than the town's traditional recreational activities.

Barrington is searching to replace John Taylor, the recreation director retiring at the end of this month, with a director of leisure services, according to an advertisment posted in July.

Town Manager Peter DeAngelis Jr. said the new recreation director will still oversee the town’s traditional recreational activities, according to a story in the Barrington Times. But it also will oversee the planning, directing, staffing and evaluating of municipal leisure services for all segments of the population.

The new leisure services director will still collaborate with the Parks and Recreation Commission, DeAngelis said. But that collaboration will be expanded to look at events such as sidewalk sales, arts and cultural activities, and possibily an expanded concert series.

Three candidates for leisure services director have been interviewed, according to the Times. A decision on any candidate is not expected for at least a few weeks.
