Three Finance Director Finalists Selected

The original pool of 41 applicants has been narrowed to three after several interviews, including with a panel of financial experts and the Barrington Town Council president.

The search for a new finance director and tax collector for Barrington has been narrowed to three finalists from 41 applicants.

The next step in the search process is expected to be determined by the end of this week, said MariAnn Oliveira, the human resources director for Barrington.

“They are all very qualified,” Oliveira said. “Barrington is very fortunate.”

First interviews of the candidates considered among the top eight were done by Oliveira and Town Manager Peter DeAngelis Jr. They narrowed that field to five.

Second interviews of those five candidates were done by a panel made up of financial experts, Oliveira said. After those interviews, the field was cut to three finalists.

Town Council President June Speakman then interviewed the three finalists, said Oliveira. That’s where the process sits right now. A final interview for each candidate with the town manager is anticipated.

“There is no drop-dead date to hire a finance director,” Oliveira said.

But the town expects to complete the search to replace former finance director Dean Huff by the end of November.

Oliveira said all of the finalists are women CPAs with jobs in other Rhode Island municipalities.

The number of original applicants was what she anticipated based on a recent search completed by Coventry for a new finance director, Oliveira said. Ads for the position were posted on monster.com and in the Providence Journal newspaper.
