Survey Asks Your Opinion of Ban on Plastic Grocery Bags in Barrington

Take a few minutes to fill out the survey from the Conservation Commission for the Barrington Town Council.

What is your opinion of Barrington’s ban of plastic grocery bags that began last January?

The Conservation Commission is conducting a survey at the request of the Town Council, which approved the ban by a 4-1 vote. That approval came with the condition that you would be surveyed for your opinion on the impact of the ban.

The survey is being conducted by students at Roger Williams University, according to Beth Rondeau of the Conservation Commission.

“The results will be used to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of the plastic bag policy,” he said. “The Conservation Commission is also trying to assess your use of plastic and reusable bags prior to the implementation of the plastic bag ban.”

The results will be tabulated and presented to the Town Council at its December meeting.

The ban has a so-called “sunset” provision. It will expire automatically on Jan. 31, 2015, unless the Town Council approves an extension or makes the ban permanent at that time.
