Board to Pick Police Cove Park Sculpture

Five finalists will be interviewed in person and on Skype tonight in Barrington Town Hall.

A piece of sculpture for the new park at Police Cove in Barrington is expected to be picked tonight in Town Hall.

Five finalists for the “public art” at the park will be interviewed in person and on Skype today, July 22, starting at 7 pm. One sculptors is expected to be given the $30,000 contract.

Two of the finalists will be interviewed in person; three will be interviewed online. Each of the finalists has already submitted a detailed proposal for the artwork in the park.

The meeting will be held in the School Committee Room in Town Hall. It is a public meeting.

The five finalists have been culled from an original 95 proposals by the Police Cove Park Committee, said Town Planner Phil Hervey. That group was then cut to 15.

The finalists come from Arizona, Michigan, Kentucky, Brooklyn, NY, and Cranston. Here they are:

  • Douwe Blumberg of Douwe Studios in LaGrange, Kentucky
  • Stephen Fairfield, the lead artist at Fairfield Enterprises in St. David, Arizona.
  • Wendy Klemperer of Brooklyn, NY
  • Robert Barnum of R. L. Barnum Studios in Mecosta, Michigan
  • Deter Wright of Cranston
