A Maine state legislator with strong Barrington ties from her childhood is seeking the U.S. Senate seat held for years in Maine by Republican Olympia Snowe, according to the Kennebec Journal.
Cynthia Dill is described in the story as a person who has spent much of her life challenging bullies and others in power for what she sees as the rights of the common person.
The story’s lead, in fact, recalls one of the first thing she remembers in her Barrington school: standing up to a bigger, older bully to protect a girl in a wheelchair. She was a fifth-grader at the time. And she didn’t back down when pushes turned to punches, according to the Kennebec Journal.
In the decades since, the story says, “Dill has continued standing up to the big kids, from the bar owner she sued in college for demoting her on account of her gender to the major corporations she took to court as a young attorney, to going head to head with Maine's governor as a freshman state senator.”
