Great speech, great President. Minimum wage increase is way overdue. Why anyone would begrudge this , shows the worse in America. who- mostly old grumpy people safe and secure in their SS and medicare, house paid off, and have it on for lower income working people , only because Obama backs it and they hate anything Obama. Sick elderlies.

Tyler the minimum wage was introduced to help people get started not support them for life. You're supposed to get into the workplace with a minimum wage and work your way up to a better pay grade. perhaps you can congratulate Obama for his great work on creating jobs and getting our economy moving, oh that's right it's not working!

Ralph: Your beginning premise is flawed. think that up yourself? The minimum wage was created so that bosses could not start workers off at slave wages. Most will work their way up. That does not mean that they should get slave wages to begin with. If you want to create jobs talk to the CEOs, not Obama. Don't start with the right wing cop out about taxes and regulations."Obama" hires no one unless you want to expand the govt work force. If CEOs could pay them $1.00 an hour they would do that if there were no law. .

Tyler, I believe the minimum wage was introduced to introduce the beginning worker a decent start and hen they with better education and skills could move upward in the wage scale. The CEO's today will pay for experience and expertise, I don't think they would pay $1.00 an hour even if they could get away with it. This push for minimum wage increase is pure pandering by the democrats and they do this during all elections. If this doesn't work it will be the war on women again!

So many delightful gotchas. A minimum wage, entry-level job might motivate you to work your way up, or secure further education, but here's the rub... - it can be difficult to get an education while working that entry-level job ("flexible" schedule = not knowing your schedule from one week to the next, so traditional classes are out of the question), or downright unaffordable (if you're not willing to go into debt, you can't pay for classes and supplies and the basics of living. If you're making minimum wage, you're probably barely covering the bases as it is). - No matter how motivated you are to move up, you can't if there's no upward path. Someone told me recently that it costs taxpayers over $900,000/year to supply assistance (food stamps, etc.) to the employees of just ONE Wal*Mart. And how much profit do those stores pull in? Corporations are getting the handouts.
