A husband and wife running for seats on the Barrington School Committee at the same time? It's happening this year.
Republican Martha Wallick has withdrawn as a Barrington School Committee candidate. She will be replaced on the ballot by Meaghan “Meg” Ramsden, the wife of School Committee member Christopher Ramsden, who is up for re-election.
Barrington Republican Town Committee Chairman Steve Primiano announced today the change in candidates.
“As disappointed as we were to lose someone as qualified as Martha,” Primiano said, “we are extremely fortunate that another excellent candidate has emerged.”
Wallick released the following statement:
“Due to previously unforeseen demands on my time, I feel I must withdraw my name as an endorsed Republican candidate for the Barrington School Committee. I would not be able to devote the time and attention necessary to do the job to the best of my ability.”
Ramsden has an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and a master’s degree in education from Harvard University, said Primiano. She has worked in public relations, and for the past 12 years as a co-teacher at the Barrington Early Childhood Center.
Her activities include classroom volunteer in the Barrington schools, the PTO executive committee, the Barrington Middle School PTO co-president, and the Barrington Boosters.
Ramsden's husband, a business executive, was elected in January of 2011 in a special election.
“Their different backgrounds and perspectives will complement each other and provide balance on the committee,” Primiano said.
