Festival of Lights to Glow Brighter This Year

18,000 LED bulbs are replacing 2,000 incandescent bulbs on the trees outside Barrington Town Hall.

Barrington’s annual Festival of Lights in front of Town Hall on Dec. 7 will glow much brighter this year.

New LED lights – 18,000 of them – will replace the 2,000 light bulbs that adorned the pine tree in front of Town Hall in years past.

The new lights will be strung on the maple trees in front of Town Hall as well as the pine tree, said Michele Geremia, Barrington recreation and leisure services director.

“The lights should surprise everyone,” Geremia said. “We plan to keep adding to the lights in years to come."

Geremia said the new LED bulbs were promised to the Barrington Business Association by Town Manager Peter DeAngelis Jr. last year. He kept that promise by putting a line item in the budget for the new lights, she said.

If you stopped by Town Hall recently, you may have noticed that conduit was run in a couple of trenches from the building to new electrical boxes on the lawn. The new lights will get their power from those boxes.

Prepare for the Festival of Lights to glow much brighter this year.
