Democrats to Mix Fine Wine, Politics

The Barrington Democratic Town Committee and Grapes & Grains liquor store on Bosworth Street are hosting a 'meet the candidates night'.

Fine wine and politics will mix in Barrington on Sunday, Sept. 9.

The Democratic Town Committee is hosting a meet the candidates' night for local and statewide offices at Grapes & Grains liquor store, 24 Bosworth St.

The event runs from 5 to 7 pm, according to Mary Alyce Gasbarro, chair of the Barrington Democratic Town Committee. Everyone is welcome.

The night will include an informal wine tasting and reception, said Gasbarro.

“Grapes and Grains will provide a variety of new and interesting wines for your sampling,” she said, “while local candidates for Town Council, School Committee and Town Moderator, along with candidates for State Representative Districts 66 and 67, will answer your questions.”

“Come out to support your favorite candidates, learn more about the issues in this important election year, and support one of our newest local businesses,” said Gasbarro.

Typical Barrington democrats, alcohol with everything makes everything look fine

I have lived in Barrington as an independent for 40 years and for the first time District 67 is a "Barrington Majority Seat" instead of the Warren seat that it has been for years. I CANNOT and WILL NOT vote for Jan Malik from Warren who missed 355 votes in 2011 (rivotes.org). He DID NOT VOTE on the Affordable Housing Bill in 2004 that will significantly raise taxes on all Barrington residents and He DID NOT VOTE on the 38 Studios Bill in 2010 which will cost RI Taxpayers over 100 million dollars.

Time to vote someone in who will actually show up! My vote is for Peter Costa - and every neighbor I have asked has said the same thing! At least he showed up at my door and asked for my vote!

I understand that Peter Costa has committed himself to overturn that insane affordable housing legislation. Now that the market has crashed and burned, we are left with developers putting up cheaply made condo's that don't pay their share of property taxes. This is hardly a recipe for prosperity with property taxes already too high.

If people in Barrington wish to not be led down a path of fiscal destruction then find some new leadership and vote them in. Frankly I'm bored with all the "wine and ice breakers" as well. Everything is not better with a drink. And this town is wondering why they have so many problems with their teens?
