Councilors to Hold Public Hearing on St. Andrew's Tennis Court Plan

Second July meeting for Barrington Town Council to take place of August meeting.

The Barrington Town Council holds another regular meeting tonight, July 15, in the Barrington library auditorium. The second meeting this month will take the place of the August monthly meeting.

The meeting starts at 6:30 pm with interviews of 8 persons who have expressed an interest in serving on the Charter Review Committee. Dealing with the rest of the agenda is expected to commence around 7 pm.

The agenda includes a public hearing on the request from St. Andrew’s School for a zone change to build additional tennis courts – a proposal that is bringing some stiff resistance from neighbors around the vicinity of County Road and Winsor Drive.

The school wants to raze a grove of trees just north of its playing fields off of Federal Road to build the additional courts. Several neighbors have hired Barrington attorney Arlene Violet to represent them in their fight against the proposal from St. Andrew’s School.

Their primary concerns appear to be about storm water runoff from the courts onto their adjacent properties and the construction of the courts on land in a flood zone.

A separate public hearing will be held on amendments to ordinances that deal with liquor-license rules and regulations and underage drinking or possession of alcohol. The ordinances are the most recent to be reviewed before the first Municipal Court session scheduled this month.

The councilors also will be asked to grant a victualing license to Jonathan and Jennifer Pfeffer of Barrington for a make your own frozen yogurt sundae shop named YoGoCrazy. The shop is moving into the Maplewood Square space previously leased by Alfred's Consignments, which has moved to Warren.
