Charter Review Committee Candidates State Their Cases

Making changes to the annual Financial Town Meeting in Barrington and non-partisan elections were among the ideas floated by candidates for the Charter Review Committee at the Town Council meeting Monday evening, July 15.

Only five of the 10 candidates were able to attend the meeting. But most of them touched on the FTM and its sometimes controversial ability to determine spending.

Appointing members to the committee was put off until the September meeting of the Town Council.

A charge for the committee also is expected to be presented at that time. The committee is expected to review every aspect of the charter and suggest revisions if any to the Town Council, which will put those that pass muster with the councilors to the public for a vote at an election.

The 10 candidates who were interviewed were John Cregan, Patricia Adams, Meghan Siket, Joel Hellman, and Kathleen Crain. Candidates who could not attend and will be interviewed later are Jeff Brenner, Jim Jackson, Mary Alyce Gasbarro, Paul Dulchinos and Joan Warren.
