Barrington's Finance Chief Resigning

Dean Huff, also the town tax collector, is taking over as the CFO at the RI Resource Recovery Corporation.

After more than a dozen years in Barrington as finance director and tax collector, Dean Huff said it’s “just time for a change.”

Huff is resigning his position on Oct. 23 to take over as chief financial officer (CFO) at the RI Resource Recovery Corporation in Johnston – the state landfill operator -- a day later.

His resignation was announced at this week’s Barrington Town Council meeting by Town Manager Peter DeAngelis Jr.

“He is going to be tough to replace,” said DeAngelis. “It’s a big loss for the town. He has been much more than our finance director. He was always willing to step up and assume other responsibilities outside the financial area.”

DeAngelis described Huff as a “real team player” who has “served the town well for 12 years.”

“People have been real good to me here,” said Huff, 47. “I’ve enjoyed my time here. And it’s going to be tough to leave the people I’ve worked with.”

Barrington is in good financial shape, he said. It has nothing to do with the position or some issue in Barrington.

“It’s just time for a change,” he said several times.

Huff, who lives west of Hope, RI, said the long commute each day was not even a factor. His drive to the office now will be around 10 minutes.

A search to replace Huff has already started, said MariAnn Oliveira, human resources director.

“It’s on monster.com today,” she said Thursday afternoon.
