Barrington to Celebrate 125th Anniversary of Town Hall Opening

The Town Council picks Saturday, Oct. 5, for a celebration that will include tours of the Tudor Medieval building.

Barrington Town Hall opened for business almost 125 years ago. A celebration to fete the anniversary is planned for Saturday, Oct. 5.

The Town Council approved the date of the celebration at its meeting on Tuesday night, Sept. 3. Tours of the Tudor Medieval-style building – one of the most visually striking in New England – are planned.

The building is constructed of local boulders and stone. It is located along the Barrington River as the cornerstone of Government Center, which includes most municipal offices, the library, the offices of the school administration, and the senior center.

Town Councilor Cynthia Coyne, who has taken on the role of the events planner for the Town Council, also is seeking volunteers from each of Barrington’s boards and commissions to get involved.

“I’m looking for volunteers to set up tables for visitors,” she said. “I’m sure there are many people who simply don’t know what each board and committee does.”
