The Providence woman, 24, told police she was trying to get to another Providence nightclub from the Whiskey Republic in Providence early Friday morning.

A Providence woman was charged early Friday morning, Dec. 27, by Barrington police with drunk driving after she was found stopped on Waseca Avenue asleep at the wheel of a running car with her foot on the brake pedal.

Katlin R. Drury, 24, of Valley Street, was spotted in her vehicle by Patrol Officer Joshua Melo. He found the Subura Impreza in the middle of Waseca Avenue about 2:11 am while on routine patrol, according to Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

Drury was slumped over the steering wheel with her eyes closed, according to LaCross. He described her condition as asleep at the wheel.

When the patrol officer startled her awake, she moved the car forward about 10 feet to the side of the road not far from the Casual Catering Deli. She told the patrol officer that she had been at the Whiskey Republic nightclub and was trying to get to another nightclub in Providence.

The woman showed the definite signs of excessive alcohol consumption, LaCross said, including slurred speech. She agreed to be tested several times. Her blood alcohol levels registered .165 and .164 – double the legal level of .08 in Rhode Island, he said.
