A couple posing as roof-repair workers reportedly "bamboozled" a 419 County Road woman, 88, out of more than $1,000 worth of jewelry last Thursday afternoon, June 14, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.
LaCross said a white man in his 50s and a woman in her 20s, possibly pregnant, allegedly swiped jewelry worth more $1,000 from the home.
The County Road woman told police that the younger woman kept her occupied downstairs while the man reportedly went upstairs to check her roof. When the couple left the home, the elderly woman went upstairs and found that a gold ring, a bracelet and other assorted pieces of jewelry were missing.
Police continue to investigate the alleged theft. The man was described as about 5-4 in height with a stocky build, according to the homeowner. The woman had dirty blonde hair and was introduced as the man’s daughter.
The County Road woman did not see a vehicle, police said. She reported the incident at 5:45 pm.
