Woman, 35, Charged With Assault on Daughter

An apparent heated argument between a Barrington mother and daughter led to simple assault charges filed by police early Sunday morning, Nov. 4.

A Barrington woman, 35, has been charged with simple assault and battery after an apparent heated argument and physical confrontation with her daughter early Sunday morning, Nov. 4.

Alicia Aguilera, of 286 County Road, has been charged by Barrington police with allegedly striking or grabbing her daughter several times during the argument, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

The woman struck her daughter once in the head and side with a shoe and then grabbed and scratched the girl as she was packing a bag to leave the house, LaCross said. The woman apparently admitted to striking the girl.

The physical confrontation apparently followed the girl, 14, yelling and throwing things around the house, according to the police. The response by three patrol officers and a sergeant to the house was not the first time police have been called to get involved, LaCross said.

Aguilera was arraigned in the police station by a justice of the peace and released about noon with a court date. Her daughter was taken into custody at 11:30 am by the RI Department of Children Youth and Families.
