Ted Crane, of Clarke Road, has been found alive and well, according to a family friend. He is reportedly walking but suffering from dehydration; he is being treated at a hospital.

Ted Crane of Barrington has been found alive and well, according to a family friend. It was confirmed by police.

The Clarke Road father of three children went missing Thursday morning, June 21, after his car broke down in North Kingstown. Police began a search early this morning.

"He's been found and he's fine," said North Kingstown Police Chief Thomas Mulligan.

North Kingstown's harbor master, Capt. Ed Hughes, found Crane walking along the shore near Quonset in the area of Hope Island around 11:30 am Friday. He was transported to a hospital for treatment and appeared to be in good health (though slightly disheveled), according to Mulligan.

Crane is walking but is dehydrated, said the friend.

No other details of how he disappeared were available. North Kingstown police reportedly used dogs to search the area.

Crane was last seen by a North Kingstown highway maintenance worker at mid-morning Thursday, according to his friends. Crane's green Mini-Cooper also was seen by a family friend around 9:40 am near T.F. Green Airport in Warwick.

Crane is well-known in Barrington for that car, the friend said. The car's hood was up and Crane appeared to be checking the oil, according to the friend who spotted the car in Warwick.

Another report indicates the car may have been overheating.

Crane's car is believed to have broken down finally at around 10:20 am on Route 403 in North Kingstown, when he contacted his wife, Peg. He apparently managed to drive to within about two miles of where he works in North Kingstown when his car finally failed.

Reportedly, Crane left his cell phone in the car and he did not contact his family a second time.
