Thieves Steal Dinghy, Jewelry, Chainsaws, Lawn Equipment, Computer in Past Week

Six larcenies were reported to the Barrington police over the past eight days.

Six larcenies were reported to Barrington police between July 15 and 22, including another theft of boating equipment.

A 8-foot dinghy worth about $1,000 was reported stolen from a dock at Stanley’s Boatyard on Barton Avenue at around 10 am on Saturday morning, July 20. It’s the mos recent theft of boats or boating accessories and equipment reported stolen over the past few weeks in Barrington. 

The dinghy was turned upside down and tied to the dock for about a day before it was reported stolen, according to Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

Also on Saturday, said LaCross, a Nayatt Road woman, 80, reported the theft of $3,000 worth of jewelry and $325 in cash from her a chest of drawers in her home. 

The woman said that she is having a significant amount of remodeling done to her home, with workers for different contractors going in and out of her house.

Two larcenies were reported on on Friday, July 19, one from a garage at a home on Lamson Road and one from a house on Sowams Road. 

Stolen from the garage were two chainsaws valued at about $400. Police received the report at around 9 am.

Believed taken from the Sowams Road home is a Colt 45 pistol that was owned by the late owner of the house. The alleged theft was reported at around 3 pm. It was last seen in the house by a relative of the late owner, he told police.

Late Thursday morning, July 18, Barrington police received a report of lawn equipment stolen from a Barrington landscaping truck parked outside a home on Nayatt Road. 

Reported stolen from the truck was an Echo leaf blower, a tool box, sprinkler tips, and shovels valued at more than $1,000. The truck owner, 57, said he had parked the vehicle on the road about an hour earlier and then went to work in the rear yard of the house. When he returned to the truck, the lawn equipment was gone. 

A Primrose Hill man should have listened to his barking dog overnight last Monday, July 15, and checked for some type of disturbance outside. He told police that he suspected the dog simply was reacting to wild animals roaming through his yard.

Barrington police received a report from him on Monday at 4:30 pm that the noise was caused by someone breaking into his car and swiping a laptop computer, printer and carrying case valued at more than $1,000.
