Thieves Continue to Target Boaters in Barrington

Thieves cut hoses and couplings and removed bolts from a motor on a boat in Stanley's Boatyard in Barrington last week.

A boat in Stanley’s Boatyard appears to have been the latest target of thieves who have stolen several stainless steel boat propellers and other parts or supplies over the past few weeks from boats or docks in Barrington waters or marinas.

Barrington police received a report early last Thursday afternoon, July 11, from a North Conway, NH, boat owner who said someone attempted to steal the motor from his boat.

The boat is stored on a trailer at the boatyard. It was last used on July 7, the man reported to police.

The boat owner found hoses severed, a coupling cut, and several bolts removed around 12:34 pm. The motor is valued at $2,800, he told police.

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross speculated that the attempted theft was thwarted when thieves were scared away from the boat, perhaps by an overnight police patrol.
