State Police Mourn Unexpected Death of Loyal K-9

A loyal member of the Rhode Island State Police who helped find numerous missing people and uncovered human remains buried 14 feet underground more than 30 years ago, has died.

He was a member of the K-9 unit and his name was Bear. For the past nine years, he worked alongside Acting Corporal Scott Carlsten and responded to missing person searches, finding many.

The state police announced Bear's death on Thursday. It was unexpected.

"Over the years Acting Corporal Carlsten and K-9 Bear appeared at many public outreach events, educating the general public," the state police said on their Facebook page. "K-9 Bear had a remarkable career and will be greatly missed."
