Restaurant Workers' Cars Vandalized

Two employees at the Newport Creamery restaurant on County Road in Barrington left work Saturday evening, Feb. 18, to find that their cars had been vandalized.

The vehicles, a 2002 Mustang and a 2006 Hyundai, were scratched and gouged from front to back with a metal object sometime between 1 and 9 pm, police said.

“Some of the scratches were deep,” said Barrington Det. Lt. Dino DeCrescenzo. “They ran up and down the cars.”

The owners, Michael Hogan, 22, of Barrington, and Grace Dugean, 36, of West Warwick, estimated that their cars had hundreds of dollars worth of damage. Their cars were parked behind the building in spaces not visible from County Road.

Hogan and Dugean found the damage about 9:11 pm after the restaurant closed for the night. Police continue to investigate the vandalism.

"It appears to be random," said DeCrescenzo.

Police scatter juveniles

Barrington police broke up on Friday evening, Feb. 17, what was described as a potential underage drinking party.

Eight juveniles were asked to leave the home of a 17-year-old girl at about 9:40 pm. Her father was out of town, police said.

No alcohol was found, and no charges were filed, according to police. But the gathering seemed to have the makings of a party without adult supervision or knowledge.

Neighbors reported to police that they observed juveniles entering the home.
