Police Track Bandit's Footprints in Snow Without Luck

Robbers made their way from vehicle to vehicle in West Barrington last week.

Barrington patrol officers spent part of early Wednesday morning, Dec. 18, trying to track down robbers by following size-11 footprints in the snow in the adjacent Roberta plat and Alfred Drowne neighborhoods.

The chase began about 6 am on Bernard Avenue when patrol officers were dispatched to a house where someone tried to enter two locked vehicles parked in the driveway sometime overnight, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

The footprints came from the neighboring house, where two unlocked cars parked in the driveway were ransacked. The only item reported stolen was a utility tool.

Officers then followed the footprints from Bernard to Bradford Street, where the tracks led to multiple vehicles parked on that street. Officers also found a second set of slightly larger footprints.

The footprints then were tracked to Walnut Road and two more vehicles that were entered with nothing reported missing. The tracks then took police officers to Alden Road and Prospect Street, where multiple vehicles parked on those streets were approached.

Eventually, the footprints led to Third Street and Chapel Road, and then back to Bradford Street, Houghton Street, Vermont Avenue, Connecticut Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue, said LaCross.

The footprints finally were lost back on Houghton Street, where it is believed the robber or robbers got into a car and drove away, said the police chief.
