Suspects Still Sought for Home Used by Squatters While Family on Vacation

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Barrington detective division or use the confidential tip line.

Barrington police are still looking for the suspects who broke into and lived in a Fireside Drive home while the owners were on vacation.

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said detectives believe the house may have been entered on “more than one occasion” and “possibly on different days.”

There is also no monetary value at this point on items taken from the house, LaCross said, although the owner, John Woodard, has said previously that very little was swiped – perhaps just some food and cash and change. The car also had an additional 35 miles showing on the odometer.

Woodard and his family returned home on Sunday night, July 28, and found wet towels strewn around the house, windows covered by blankets, open bags of food covered with flies and a stench in the house.

He also said that the possible squatters appear to have tried to clean up dishes and do laundry but couldn’t figure out to run the dishwasher and clothes washer. They even changed the batteries in the Wii, he said.
