A runaway dog was reported stolen to Barrington police from the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot last week.
The dog, a 13-year-old Husky named “Rocco,” escaped from a Waseca Avenue backyard on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 22. The owner is a woman who moved to Barrington a few days earlier.
The dog was chased into the parking lot by the woman’s children, according to the Barrington police report. It was picked up by a man and placed in a vehicle, police said.
It was believed at that time, about 6 pm, that the man would swing by the Barrington police station and report the dog as missing and found in the lot. That did not happen, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.
The dog weighs about 60 pounds, LaCross said. It has one blue eye and one brown eye.
Detectives are looking at surveillance recordings of the parking lot to try to identify the man and the car. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the police department at 437-3930 or on the confidential tip line at 437-3933.
