Police Seek Info On Hit and Run Case

A 33-year-old woman was reportedly struck by a car on Ayrault Street early on Sunday.

Police are seeking information about a reported hit and run that occurred early Sunday morning at Broadway and Ayrault Street.

Around 12:35 a.m. on Sunday morning police responded to a report of a woman struck by a car near The Fifth Element. When they arrived, the 33-year-old Middletown woman was bleeding heavily from her head and eye.

She told police she was crossing Ayrault Street when a small gray car turned and hit her. She then felt her body go over the hood of the car and land on the street. The car did not stop and continued on Ayrault Street, she said.

Reports said her injuries were “serious but not life threatening.” The woman was immediately transported to the Newport Hospital emergency room.

According to a witness, the driver was a man operating a gray Toyota Prius.

There is currently no plate information and surveillance cameras did not pick up footage of the accident.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Sgt. Christopher Hayes at (401) 845-5717.

Person already turned herself in. Not before lawyering up.

Its not right that the person didn't stop...people react differently to situations..the person most likely panicked or was in shock..shock causes the brain to "lock" & can prevent anyone from reacting properly. The fact that they turned themselves in already says that they do have a conscious. We must remember that we can never know what a person goes thru in a certain situation unless we are able to be right inside their mind. Again, not stopping was not right but we don't know if they wanted to stop &shock prevented that at that time. I'm glad the woman who was hit is not very seriously hurt.
