Police Investigating Daylight Break-in, Theft of Jewelry

A New Meadow Road home was broken into and burglarized during the day last Thursday, Oct. 25.

Barrington police are investigating a daylight break-in and burglary at a New Meadow Road home last Thursday, Oct. 25.

More than $5,000 worth of precious jewelry and a silver watch were reported stolen, according to Barrington Police Chief John LaCross. The burglary was reported at 4:20 pm.

One of the homeowners, a 74-year-old man, told police that he and his wife left the home at around 9 am and returned at 4:15 pm to find that someone had broken into the house.

They called the police and did not enter the home until two detectives, two sergeants and a patrol officer arrived to investigate.

A side door to the house appears to have been pried open with an axe found in the detached garage, LaCross said.

Reported stolen were a silver watch, gold earrings, a sapphire ring and other jewelry worth thousands of dollars.
