Unlocked Vehicle 'Bandit' Charged

An East Providence man, 19, faces five larceny charges by after he allegedly ransacked unlocked vehicles in the driveways of homes in the Sherwood and Primrose Hill neighborhoods about three weeks ago.

Christopher S. Storti, of 153 Worcester Ave., turned himself in to police late Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 10, said Police Chief John LaCross. The five counts of larceny under $500 Storti is charged with are misdemeanors.

LaCross said all of the alleged thefts by Storti occurred at homes in those two neighborhoods. They are among the dozen that were reported to Barrington police on Dec. 28 from owners of unlocked vehicles on Hemlock Drive, Rosedale Avenue, County Road, Sherwood Lane, Carriage Trail, Great Road and Richmond Avenue.

All of the homes are within walking distance from each other not too far from the Riverside line. Those reported thefts brought to almost 45 the number of unlocked vehicles in Barrington hit by thieves since August.

After the late-December thefts, LaCross said, police were closing in on the alleged “bandits.” Two suspects, including Storti, were identified by working with East Providence police.

Items taken from the unlocked vehicles include GPS devices, some of which have been recovered; iPods, a phone charger, an MP3player, a camera, DVDs, movies for DVDs, sunglasses, an iPad connector, laptop computers, a silver watch, hoop earrings, headphones, a backpack and cash, including loose change.
