Police Charge Man, 26, With Drunk Driving

Riverside man pulled over early Friday morning in Barrington.

An East Providence man, 26, faces drunk-driving charges in Barrington.

Donald J. Marshall, of 395 Bullocks Point Ave., Riverside, was traveling north on County Road near Hemlock Drive early Friday morning, Sept. 6, when a patrol officer noticed the light over his license plate was not working. The officer gave chase.

Marshall was followed to Middle Highway near Winsor Drive, where he was pulled over for allegedly driving erratically. The police report indicates that his vehicle swerved over the center line several times and then he attempted to make a left turn where no driveway or road exists, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

The arresting officer said that Marshall had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and showed other obvious signs that he had been drinking, said LaCross. He failed field sobriety tests after he refused to take both a preliminary breath test and a chemical test to determine his blood-alcohol level, according to the arrest report.

Marshall was arrested and taken to the Barrington police station to be held overnight to sober up, according to the arrest report. He was taken to District Court early Friday morning to face the charges, which included a DUI first offense and refusing to submit to breath tests. He also faces several traffic charges. His arrest does not mean a conviction.
