Nuns Thwart Delivery of Marijuana

Bag placed at the base of a bush by the Carmelite Monastery is found by the nuns and turned over to Barrington police.

A delivery by a teen to the base of a bush by the Carmelite Monastery on Watson Avenue in Barrington last Sunday afternoon, Dec. 8, seemed a bit odd to one of the nuns.

She called the Barrington Police Department to report that someone had dropped off a bag at the bush around 2:30 pm. Then several nuns walked out to the tree, picked up the bag, and brought it inside.

A peek inside the bag discovered a stash of a “green, leafy substance,” said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross. One of the sisters said it smelled like marijuana.

Indeed, police identified the contents of the bag, said LaCross. It was 4 grams of the green, leafy substance.

The nuns also reported to the police that they were seeing more cars than usual driving up and down quiet Watson Avenue in front of the monastery. Someone looking for a bag, perhaps?

The police have the bag if you want to try to claim it.
