Man Charged With Trying to Get Oxycodone With Fake Rx

Providence man also charged with carrying illegal knife.

A Providence man allegedly tried to fill a fake prescription for oxycodone in Barrington on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Jamie L. Figueroa, 25, of Manton Avenue, dropped off the fake prescription at CVS pharmacy on County Road at about 3:20 pm. He was arrested later that afternoon by Barrington police while waiting for the drug in the store.

He was and charged with using a false prescription to obtain a controlled substance and carrying an illegal knife. He also was picked up on a bench warrant.

Figueroa told police officers that he was trying to fill the prescription for someone else, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross. But the man could not provide a full name or address or description of a man allegedly waiting outside. 

Figueroa also complained of chest pains during the investigation and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. He was treated and sent back to Barrington with police officers.

Figueroa was arraigned by a justice of the peace in the police station on Federal Road before being turned over to the RI State Police early Sunday morning on the arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on another charge.
