Six violent crimes were reported in Barrington last year, according to statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The 2012 number is down by 2 from the previous year's total of 8 violent crimes.
The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall of the year that follows the reported year.
Violent crime as defined in the report includes murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.
In 2012, Barrington reported two forcible rapes, three robberies and one aggravated assault.
In addition to violent crimes, Barrington reported 179 property crimes in 2012 – down by 2 from the previous year.

There were 30 burglaries, 146 instances of larceny or theft and 7 motor vehicle thefts. There also was one case of arson reported to the FBI.
