Girl, 16, Faces B&E Charge for Entering Vacant House for Party

A 16-year-old Barrington girl faces breaking and entering charges by after a Friday night, Jan. 20, get-together in a vacant house on Elm Lane near Nayatt Road turned into a drinking party that caused damage to the home.

The teen “was familiar with the home,” Police Chief John LaCross said. She allegedly entered the Elm Lane home without consent of the owner, who was out of state at the time. Reportedly, an unlocked sliding glass door was used to enter the home, he said.

A caretaker of the property discovered the illegal entry to the home on Saturday morning, Jan. 21, LaCross said. She contacted the homeowner, who asked her to get the police involved because of damage to a chair and window in the home and the possibility of some missing items, he said.

An investigation by police found the house “in disarray and beer bottles and cigarette butts on the floor,” the police chief said.

The mother of the 16-year-old learned of the illegal entry from her daughter. The teen said that she and a few friends entered the house. Other people soon learned of the party through texting, LaCross said, which led to “unwanted people” showing up and the party reportedly getting out of control. The teen reportedly left at that time, LaCross said.

The teen‘s mother and the girl contacted the caretaker about the party on Saturday. The girl’s mother then brought her into the police station, LaCross said.

“They are cooperating,” he said.

Other charges could be filed, LaCross said, if the continuing investigation can determine who did the damage or who brought in the beer and liquor.

In the meantime, the 16-year-old faces a charge of entering a dwelling without the consent of the owner and vandalism/malicious injury to property, LaCross said.

Woman allegedly slugs husband

A Barrington woman, 54, has been charged by Barrington police with domestic simple assault and battery against her husband.

Carolee C. Neff, of 19 Woodhaven Road, allegedly punched her husband in the face, knocking off his glasses, during an argument over their daughter on Saturday, Jan. 21.

The incident was reported to police at 12:01 pm by the daughter, police said. The alleged assault reportedly happened earlier in the day.

Neff was arraigned by a justice of the peace about 2:30 pm. She was released with a court date.
