'Friendly' Bull Mastiff Bites Walker

An East Providence man, 72, is bitten by a dog at the Barrington High School track.

An East Providence man, 72, walking with a friend from East Providence, 71, on the track at Barrington High School reported to police late Monday morning, Sept. 24, that he was bitten by a large brown Bull mastiff.

The dog runs loose at the high school track frequently while its Barrington owner walks the track, according to the police report.

The man told police that there have been no problems with the dog in the past. But this time the dog bit his forearm when it was approached by the walkers at around 11:30 am.

The man was transported by Barrington rescue to Miriam Hospital for treatment. The dog bite was reported to the state health department.

Maybe there "hadn't been any problems in the past" with this dog but Mastiffs are inherently protective & the owner should've had more common sense than to let it run loose like that when other people are around. I am certainly Not condeming the dog. He/she was just being a dog & doing what is natural to that breed of dog. It can pop up at any time & did.
