Five Larcenies Reported to Police Over Three Days

Among the items reported stolen in Barrington last week are jewelry, cameras, and checks.

Barrington police were kept busy late last week responding to a handful of reports of larcenies that started coming in on Halloween, Oct. 31.

A theft of cameras was reported stolen at 10:48 am from a vehicle parked at a home on Sowams Road. A woman, 68, said two digital cameras have disappeared from the vehicle since Columbus Day.

Another theft from a vehicle was reported at 11:14 am on Halloween. The vehicle was parked at Cove Haven Marina. The convertible was locked but someone sliced through the soft-top roof to steal a $5 backpack, according to the owner, a 36-year-old man.

A Tallwood Drive woman reported at 3:18 pm on Oct. 31 that three forgeries of checks in her checkbook were cashed in South Orange, NJ, and Union, NJ, for a total of $2,500. Her bank has returned the money, according to Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, an Alfred Drowne Road woman reported the theft of her son’s Cypress mountain bike from Barrington High School on Friday, Nov. 1. It is valued at $495.

Also on Saturday, a Vineland Drive woman, 63, reported the theft of an 18-carat-gold ring and gold ear rings and a half-carat diamond ring. The jewelry, worth about $1,000, appears to have disappeared from a jewelry box during a time period the woman had some construction work done on her home, she told police. An investigation into the theft continues.
