Firewood Cash in Milk Box Disappears

Barrington police are investigating an apparent theft of $250 left in a milk box for a delivery of firewood.

Barrington police are investigating an alleged theft of cash from a Hawthorne Avenue man’s milk box.

The Barrington man, 53, told police that he left $250 in the box to pay for a load of firewood from the Tree Doctor in Warren. He was expecting delivery of a cord of firewood last Friday, Nov. 22, according to Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

The man arrived back home around 4 pm and said he saw no firewood in his driveway and no money in the milk box.

He told police about 4:30 pm that he called the Warren tree service and was told there was no money in the box for the delivery. So the delivery driver did not drop off the firewood.
