UPDATE: Cop Put on 'Administrative Leave'

Barrington Sgt. Joseph Andreozzi, facing a domestic charge, will remain on leave until the resolution of his case.

The Barrington police officer facing a domestic disorderly conduct charge has been "put on administrative leave with pay," said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross Friday morning, Aug. 31.

Sgt. Joseph Andreozzi, 45, will remain on leave until the resolution of the case, LaCross said. The Rhode Island State Police are handling the case to preserve impartiality.

Andreozzi pleaded not guilty in court Thursday, Aug. 30, after his arrest early that morning by the State Police for allegedly threatening his ex-wife, according to WPRI TV.

He and his ex-wife reportedly were arguing on the phone when he allegedly threatened her late Wednesday night, Aug. 29, according to WPRI-TV.

She contacted Barrington police and left her home, where Andreozzi reportedly showed up a short time later. There was no physical altercation, said the state police.

Andreozzi was released after his arraignment in court and given a no-contact order.
