The alleged “Bearded Bandit” will plead guilty to robbing nine banks, several in Barrington, according to U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha.
Justin Worley, 34, will admit that he entered nine financial institutions – eight in Rhode Island and one in Massachusetts – and used implied or explicit threats to rob the banks of more than $32,500, Neronha said. In at least four of the robberies, he threatened to kill a bank teller, the U.S. Attorney said.
Bank of America and TD Bank, next door to each other on County Road, were among the banks that were robbed. He also robbed banks in East Providence, Pawtucket, Providence and Seekonk.
Worley used a disguise – a dark beard and hat -- to conceal his identity. He was arrested last September at a Seekonk motel.
The maximum penalty for bank robbery, according to Neronha, is 20 years in a federal prison, a fine up to $250,000 and a supervised release of three years.
