Barrington Teacher Arrested for Alleged Assault

A teacher at Sowams Elementary School was arrested last month for allegedly assaulting another teacher, according to police.

Police said Jacquelyn Pereira, 53, of 11 Church St., allegedly grabbed another teacher's arm on April 17 in a school hallway while walking with a group of second graders to a classroom.

Pereira reportedly grabbed the teacher's arm when that person started to walk away during the argument.

The victim filed a complaint and Pereira turned herself into police on April 29.

EastBayRI.com reported that school Superintendent Michael Messore said he would not comment matter, citing personnel confidentiality reasons.
