Barrington Poker Party Turns Violent

Barrington police charge a Maine man with simple assault after he reportedly struck another man.

A Barrington poker party apparently got a bit out of hand very early last Sunday morning, Oct. 27.

Barrington police were called to a home near Anchorage Way and Melrose Avenue about 5:20 am after a report of yelling and screaming. They stopped a Harford, Maine, man walking along Anchorage Way.

The man, Gonzalo E. Ruiz, 44, was playing poker with two other men when things got a bit violent. He allegedly struck a relative in the face before leaving the home, according to the police report.

Ruiz now faces simple assault and disorderly conduct charges, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross. The man Ruiz allegedly hit had a cut on his nose and bottom lip, according to the police report.

Ruiz was arraigned in the Barrington police station by a justice of the peace. He posted bail and was released with a date to return to District Court to face the charges.
