Another Teen Charged After Drinking Party on Beach

The drinking party last Saturday night, Nov. 16, left one Barrington girl 'unresponsive' and treated for possible alcohol poisoning.

A second teen has been charged with underage drinking at the Allin’s Cove beach party that left a girl, 15, unresponsive and treated for alcohol poisoning last Saturday night, Nov. 16.

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said the boy, 15, faces a charge of underage possession and consumption of alcohol. He was arrested last Monday evening, Nov. 18. An investigation into the party continues.

“Most of the parents are cooperating,” said LaCross. “Only one parent is not cooperating. He is getting an attorney.”

The boy and girl were among approximately half a dozen teens at the party, the police chief said. They will be referred to the Barrington Juvenile Hearing Board and go through the BAY Team’s alcohol awareness program with their parents.

The BAY team program focuses primarily on the psychological issues surrounding teen drinking, although some physical issues are touched on by a medical professional. Dan Converse of Barrington, who lost his son to underage drinking and who has become a frequent speaker on this issue, also is part of the program.

The girl, 15, was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for treatment. She was found soaking wet on Willow Way near Allin’s Cove wrapped in a blanket and being held by another teenage girl. She apparently stumbled and fell into the water at the beach, said LaCross.

Barrington police found several water bottles filled with alcohol at the beach. The 15-year-old girl was described as “highly intoxicated” in the police report.

There also was a report that one of the teens at the party took the cell phone from the girl who stayed with the intoxicated teen so she could not call the police and report the party.
