William Sturm Sr., 82, Founded Appliance Store

His calling hours are Friday and his funeral service is Saturday from the Smith-Mason Funeral Home in Riverside.

William Sturm Sr. of Hilltop Avenue, Barrington, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014. He was 82.

He was the husband of Christine (DeBalsi) Sturm; they had been married 59 years. Born in Porterwood, WV, he was the son of the late George and Edith (Phillips) Sturm.

Sturm worked for General Electric Co. for 30 years and was a founder of Sturm’s Appliance in Middletown. A Korean War Army veteran, he had been active with the Boy Scouts and was a past president of the PTA. He was a pillar of faith in the Barrington United Methodist Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, William R. Sturm, Jr. of Middletown and Joseph D. Sturm of Barrington; two daughters, Janice McPartland of Rehoboth and Susan Eddins of Riverside; three brothers, Kenneth and Jerry Sturm of WV, and Larry Sturm of Va, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 9:30 am in the Barrington United Methodist Church, 230 Washington Road. Calling hours are Friday, Jan. 10, from 4-7 pm in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Avenue, Riverside.

Burial with Military Honors will be in Gates of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Barrington United Methodist Church.
