Edward E. Hanrahan, Pressman, Active in Barrington Baseball

His calling hour are today and his funeral is Tuesday from Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home in Providence.

Edward E. Hanrahan, formerly of Fountain Avenue, West Barrington, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at the R.I. Veterans Home in Bristol.

He was the husband of the late Rose Carol (Clancy) Hanrahan. Born in Providence he was a son of the late William and Gertrude (Hewes) Hanrahan.

He was a West Barrington resident for 50 years and a pressman for the Providence Journal for 38 years before retiring in 1976. He was active in Local 12 of the Printing and Pressman’s Union. Following his retirement from the Journal he worked as a Workers Compensation Analyst for the State of R.I. for 10 years. He also did workers compensation inspections for Attorney Vincent Chisholm for 5 years.

In 1988 at the age of 68, he graduated cum laude from Rhode Island College.  Active in Barrington baseball, he was involved in the CYO and Town Little League and was a founder and coach for their Babe Ruth League. He was past president of the Residents Association of the RI Veterans Home. 

He was a veteran of the Army in World War II serving with the 43rd Infantry Division at Guadalcanal, Northern Solomons, Luzon and New Guinea. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

He leaves his children: Rosemary Maher and her husband James E. of Providence and Edward E. Hanrahan Jr. of Manchester, NH, Stephen J. Hanrahan and his wife Deborah, of Bristol, NH and Maryann Hanrahan and her fiancé of Paul Malzahn of Wakefield, a brother: John Hanrahan of Cranston, 2 sisters: Patricia Fogarty and Gladys Chatwin both of Narragansett and 5 grandchildren: Ian, Joshua and Liana Hanrahan and Edward and Martin Larson. Beloved Uncle to 72 Nieces and Nephews. He was the brother of the late William, Gerald, David and Fr. Joseph Hanrahan SSC. and Mary Cunningham.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:45 am from the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial in St Joseph Church, 92 Hope St, Providence at 10 am.

Calling hours are today from 4-7pm. Burial will be in the R.i. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
