A Safer Summer

The Bayside Y encourages children and adults to have fun and enjoy the various benefits of swimming, but to always make safety their first priority.

Learning to swim teaches valuable life lessons of safety. The statistics about drowning fatalities are sobering; it is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages one to 14 years old. Nine people drown each day in the U.S., and children from non-swimming households are eight times more likely to be at risk of drowning.

The Bayside Y offers swim lessons for all ages, as well as adaptive swim programs to meet the diverse and unique needs of children and adults. YMCA swim programs teach water safety skills and help participants develop confidence in and around the water.
