Golf Performance Exercises

Improve swing speed and distance off the tee with a quick exercise program.

At OrthoCore Physical Therapy I work with patients to help them rehabilitate from their injuries. (I know, big surprise coming out of a PT clinic.)

What you may not know is that I also work with golfers to improve their performance.  I have been certified through the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) to utilize a screen that highlights players strengths and weaknesses.  I then work with them to fix their problems which will help them achieve a better swing and hopefully lower scores on the course.

One question that I get across the board from my golfers is "how do I hit it farther?"  There are a couple of different answers to this question;
1: Make sure you are hitting the ball in the sweet spot of the club.  Any miss-hit will not go as far as a center face hit.
2: Have enough flexibility to make a full backswing and be able to start your swing with your hips.  If you are too tight you won't be able to do this.
3: Increase your strength in your power muscles so you can swing the club faster.  Increased swing speed = increased distance.  It's simple physics.

An exercise program that includes exercises for your abdominal and glutes will help with all three answers above. The abs and glutes are the king and queen of the golf swing.  If you are stronger in these muscle groups, you will be able to stay on plane longer which will lead to increased center face contact.  It will also help to improve your mobility (flexibility) and increase your swing speed, guaranteed.

I made a Youtube video that demonstrates some of my favorite exercises for the abs and glutes. You can watch it here.  The exercises are fairly difficult. If you have pain performing them please do not do them.  That won't get you anywhere.  If you have any questions or want to get started on an exercise program please contact me

Thank you for reading. Hope this helps you improve your body and your golf game.
