YMCA Hosting 'Healthy Kids Day'

The usual activities at the Bayside YMCA in Barrington will be supplemented on Saturday for 'Health Kids Day' from 10 am to 2 pm.

Activities at the in Barrington on Saturday will include obstacle courses, swimming, dance, live music, Zumba, nutritious snacks and food, and tips on preventing disease and keeping children safe.

To put that another way, it’s Health Kids Day at the YMCA on April 28 from 10 am to 2 pm. The building is open to everyone.

The day involves free, fun activities for the entire family, according to a spokesman for the YMCA of Greater Providence. Other community organizations will be on hand as well to share information.

The goal of the event is to encourage children and families to learn ways to become healthier through physical activity and healthy eating.

“We really want families to come to the ‘Y’ and see that living a healthy lifestyle can be fun,” said Michael Fournier, Senior Vice President of the YMCA of Greater Providence. “Whether it’s planning nutritious meals together or participating in fitness activities as a family, we want to instill in kids a love of being healthy that will last a lifetime.”

Healthy Kids Day in Rhode Island this year has several sponsors, including WPRI 12/FOX Providence, Hurd AutoMall, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, and Citizens Bank.

Healthy Kids Day in Rhode Island also is part of a national event involving 1,900 YMCAs. In Rhode Island and nearby southeastern Massachusetts and Connecticut there are 17 branches hosting Healthy Kids Day activities in their communities.
