This Weekend: Earth Day Celebration, Cleanup; Fenway Park Talk

There is plenty to do this Earth Day weekend in and around Barrington, including a Land Trust cleanup and celebration; Wheeler School 'clothing and more' sale; talk on 100-year-old Fenway Park, FAB basketball tourney.

The 64th annual “clothing and more” sale at Wheeler School in Providence continues today and Saturday starting at 10 am each day. Go to the gymnasium at 407 Brook St. on the East Side and find clothing for the whole family and many other “treasures” at greatly produced prices.

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust cleans up the eastern shore of Allin’s Cove and the Third Street access to the Narragansett Bay beach on Saturday from 10 am to noon. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Click here for more information.

The second annual FAB (For Anything But alcohol drugs or tobacco) 5v5 Basketball Tournament runs Saturday at the St. Andrew’s School gym in Barrington starting at 10 am with a guest speaker from AA at noon. Donations at the door.

Hear about famed Fenway Park’s first year in 1912 on Sunday afternoon from author and sports writer Glen Stout, who will pull excerpts from his book, Fenway 1912: The Birth of a Ballpark, a Championship Season, and Fenway’s Remarkable First Year. His talk starts at 2 pm in the Barrington library.

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust celebrates Earth Day on Sunday with a celebration of its acquisition of Sowams Woods five years ago. Stroll the reconstructed trails and enjoy some refreshments from 3 to 4:30 pm.
