Volunteer Group's Future Up in Air

Beyond Our Walls, which sponsors the annual Great Day of Service, is looking for new leaders to continue the work of the Barrington organization at its annual meeting on Saturday.

Beyond Our Walls of Barrington, the sponsors of the annual Great Day of Service by hundreds of volunteers on Columbus Day, holds its annual meeting on Saturday, Jan. 28.

The meeting will be held at St. Luke’s Church at 108 Washington Road. It runs from 9 to 11 am.

The meeting agenda involves nothing less than the future of Beyond Our Walls, which was launched seven years ago by people from congregations in Barrington’s churches.

The group formed to serve the community through volunteerism and working with other congregations across Rhode Island to improve the lives of less fortunate people, according to the executive board of the organization in a letter to the editor.

Since its founding, thousands of volunteers on the Great Day of Service have helped to feed the hungry, clean up parks, send goods to soldiers serving overseas in a war zone and conduct a myriad of other charitable activities.

Beyond Our Walls also has brought people together from diverse faiths who have learned about each other and who have worked together for the good of the entire community, the letter states.

The board now would like to turn over the leadership of the organization to new people.

You are invited to the annual meeting to help continue the mission of the organization. (See the letter to the editor of Patch by clicking here.)
