Getting Ready for 'Beach Slam 2'

Save the Bay's second annual 'Beach Slam' returns to Barrington at Tillinghast Farm on Narragansett Bay on Sunday, Sept. 16.

Save The Bay’s second Beach Slam returns to Barrington on Sunday, Sept. 16.

Tillinghast Farm between Nayatt Road and Narragansett Bay is the location. It’s a celebration of National Estuaries Day with plenty of family fun from noon to 5 pm, rain or shine.

Beach Slam features free beach activities, including rock climbing with Rock Spot Climbing, canoeing with Blackstone Valley Outfitters, and beach seining with Save The Bay’s education staff.

The event also includes live entertainment, land activities, arts and crafts, and a variety of local food vendors.  Admission and parking are free.

There also will be a sailboat raffle. The NorseBoat 21.5 Cruiser, valued at $46,000, will be raffled off, along with a trailer, to support Save The Bay’s advocacy and education programs.

The NorseBoat is a versatile day sailer with a host of innovative features – such as a self-draining cockpit.  It accommodates two adults and two children.

Raffle tickets are $125 each or two for $200.  A maximum of 500 tickets will be sold.  Purchase tickets online at www.savebay.org/slam.

A local recording artist, Brian McKenzie, known for his country/roots blend of Americana, joins this year’s entertainment lineup.  McKenzie recently signed with Cloverdale Music and is touring throughout the Northeast.

Bob Tomassone of Fat Free Bob returns as the event emcee.

Sponsors for the second Beach Slam include WJAR 10, Clear Channel Communications, Whole Foods, the YMCA of Greater Providence, Rock Spot Climbing, Motif Magazine, and REI.

All proceeds from the event will support Save The Bay’s marine science education programs and advocacy efforts.
