'Active Older Adult Day' at YMCA

The Bayside YMCA celebrates active older adults on Wednesday with a health and information fair and luncheon.

The Bayside YMCA in Barrington celebrates Active Older Adult Day on Wednesday from 9 am to 1:30 pm.

“All Active Older Adults are welcome to join us at the Bayside YMCA,” said Edna Kurtzman, coordinator for active older adults.

"Display tables and screening booths will be open from 9 am to noon,” she said. “Posture, flexibility and balance assessments and glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure screening will be available. Enjoy seated massage or Reiki."

“This year,” Kurtzman said, “Grace Barker Nursing Center, Atria Bay Spring Village, East Bay Manor, the Arthritis Foundation, and Barrington Senior Center have displays.

“Ask the pharmacist or ask a dietitian,” she said.  “Learn more about home safety.”

Information will be available on foster grandparents, Ocean State Center for Independent Living, Rhode Island Mood and Memory Institute, Rhody Tides senior games, and The Point. Kurtzman said.

The health and information fair will be followed by lunch and a speaker from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. The topic is “Putting Your Feet First” by a representative of Olympic Physical Therapy, a sponsor of the day.

There will be an exercise class from 1:30 to 2:15 pm after the luncheon. All activities are free and open to the public.
