Male Au Pair Shares RI Experience, So Far

I'd love to take a minute and let a real au pair, living here in RI right now, share his perspective with you regarding the Au Pair Program. Here are a few Q & A we recently exchanged. I hope you all can make it out to WaterFire Providence this weekend too, or to our International Potluck Bayside in June!

Q: What has been your best experience so far with your family?
A:  My best experience has been to be part of this family. Now I´m like a big brother for them, I believe I´m a role model for them and that is really gratifying.

Q:  What has been your biggest surprise so far about America or American families?
A:  In my opinion, America, I think is too soon to talk about that point. I´m already fourth month in Rhode Island and the culture is different, everything is distinct... With respect to American Families, each family is different. For sure, my neighborhood is really nice, friendly, warm...

Q:  What do you hope to accomplish in this year?
A:  I hope to do my best with my host family, help with the kids, house

Q:  What event or activity do you want to do most?
A:  I can´t wait to visit "water fire" in Providence

Q:  What benefits do you think you bring to your host family?
A: responsibility, good manners, education, respect...and for sure, learn Spanish

Q:  What is your message to other host families considering au pair childcare?
A:  beautiful experience for each part,  I mean for the au pair and host family. That´s all...

Carlos hails from Valencia, Spain, and is thoroughly enjoying his au pair experience in Rhode Island. He provides up to 45 flexible hours of childcare to a single mom with four kids! He even helps out with child-related household tasks like kids' laundry, snacks, meals, driving to/from activities! Why not consider it for your family?
